Iesakh Kachakatii
Iesakh Kachakatii is one of the two head scavengers in Havenbourne, renowned for her immunity to the strong radiation and cold encountered in the Surface Wastelands due to stage 5 vampirism. She's the daughter of Presta Kachakatii and Jakuko Cato, and the best friend and work partner of Jemma Tsukha.
Appearance
Iesakh is 5'9, and even when she's not in full scavenging gear she's an intimidating woman. Her skin is patchy due to her mixed parentage, red scaly patches intermingled with smooth grey. She takes after Jakuko the most in terms of appearance, with similar large horns, pointed demonic ears, and loosely coiled white hair. She does have a stumpy tail covered in firesalt scaling, but it's barely four inches long and nowhere near helpful, so she usually keeps it hidden under baggy clothing.
Her late stage vampirism has caused several visible changes by the start of the Year5k story, the most notable of which are yellow sclera with bleeding irises [and slight vision problems as a result], and razor sharp fangs. The fangs are almost always hidden by her lockon respirator both for her own comfort and the safety of everyone else in Havenbourne, and the sclera end up hidden by her infrared goggles when she's out on a trip with Jemma. She does also have a tell-tale scar going horizontally over her face that is the sign of someone with vampirism [due to the tightness and long periods of keeping on a mask that any stage four or stage five needs to function normally], but since Jemma is the only one who's seen her without the respirator for the past seven years, she's not self conscious about it.
She'll wear just about anything, although her favourite outfits are usually bulky and bright, half to combat dysphoria and half so that Jemma can tell who she is from a distance, especially on a scavenging trip. Super reflective jewellery, high-contrast sweaters, and neon belts can all be found amongst other stuff in her wardrobe.
Personality
From the outside Iesakh seems scary and overprotective to a fault, letting Jemma do most of the talking around strangers while keeping watch with keen eyes. However, once she's back home in Havenbourne, she switches to about as friendly as jemma herself, although with only about a third the energy from battling the vampirism constantly. While she's not out on a trip [and even sometimes when she is], she likes writing and performing her own music, being proficient in guitar, violin, and singing.
Despite being immune to the cold, she still heavily prefers warmth thanks to her firesalt genetics, and can usually be found curled up beside a fireplace in either her parents' house, Rilta's living room, or near one of the hallway heaters near the centre of the city.
Backstory
Iesakh was born to Presta and Jakuko at a time when Havenbourne was struggling for materials, the last three top-side scavengers having been taken out by a milita of ihonoita a few years prior. Despite this, the two fathers did their best to give her a normal childhood full of joy. From a young age she made friends with Jemma due to Presta's frequent work-related visits to Rilta's home, and the two quickly became inseperable, leading to Iesakh being home-schooled by Rilta along with Jemma instead of going to a city school. Rilta and Morgan ended up as a third and fourth father of sorts, doting on the pair of them just as much as Presta and Jakuko.
She was infected with vampirism at age 6 after being mauled by a stage four sufferer who'd got into the city under the guise of looking for medical treatment, and who died a few hours after despite Presta's attempts to save them. A few years later when she'd started showing signs of degrading, Presta came up with a recipe for a medicine using his own magic-saturated scales, that would temporarily suppress Iesakh's urges and mania for a week. The only time she's without it is on very long scavenging trips, but since Jemma's technically undead she doesn't trigger Iesakh's hunger, so there's no real danger at those times.
Since getting to stage three, Iesakh's made it a side mission to teach as many people in the city about the realities of the disease, as she's the only one with it inside the walls. She's routinely invited to talk at schools and other social events, usually accompanied by Jemma because they're literally inseparable.
